Fighting bad or ugly development

Cartoon by Dominic Sladden

Brighton Marina planning application (late 2007)
involves demolishing Asda and the petrol station and rebuilding as well as other development, including 28 storey high building.

The Kingscliffe Society scans the weekly planning applications submitted to the Council and opposes any which might harm the character, beauty or amenities of the area. The Society is also regularly asked for its views by the local authority when it considers development schemes.

We support any developments which will enhance the area - but oppose those which do not. The Society vigorously opposed the Aquarium Terraces development because of the height of buildings, which rise so high that they block out sea views along Marine Parade.

Residents' Parking
The Kingscliffe Society is involved in issues that affect the local community.  A recent example is the controversial parking permits scheme around the Royal Sussex County Hospital. We are keeping a close eye on this scheme to make sure it really works for local people. We were invited by the Council to play an active role in the setting up of a monitoring group for the scheme and our representative regularly attends meetings with councillors and other residents to discuss its progress and problems which may arise.
